Mets name Dick Scott their new bench coach
The Mets filled their coaching staff vacancy on Wednesday afternoon, naming Dick Scott as Terry Collins’ new bench coach, the team announced.
Scott, 53, has served as the team’s director of player development under Sandy Alderson since 2013 and he succeeded Terry Collins as the organization’s field coordinator from 2011-2012. He has become a very well regarded figure inside the organization.
A shortstop by trade, Scott was originally drafted in the 17th round of the 1981 first-year player draft. His professional career spanned ten seasons, although he only played in three Major League games (1989 with the A’s) from 1981-1989 before retiring as a player.
Scott has coached in the A’s and Diamondbacks organizations, and also served as a scout for Arizona, field coordination for the Astros, and player development director for the Blue Jays from 2001-2009.
