Mets sign Ty Kelly to minors deal
The Mets have signed infielder/outfielder Ty Kelly to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training, the team announced on Friday.
A switch hitter, Kelly, 27, played in both the Blue Jays and Cardinals organizations in 2015. He began his season with Triple-A Memphis, hitting just .203. The Cardinals then waived Kelly, and Toronto picked him up on July 22. He spent the remainder of the season with Triple-A Buffalo, hitting .264 with four doubles one home run and 12 RBI in 38 games.
Kelly is a versatile player, which speaks to the organizational need to spread it’s wings around the diamond. He can play three outfield positions and both second and third base.
He has spent seven years in the Orioles, Mariners, Cardinals and Blue Jays organizations, having never played in the Major Leagues.
