Watch: 29 years ago today at Shea Stadium…

On October 25, 1986 in the 10th inning of Game 6 in the 1986 World Series, the Mets were trailing the Red Sox by the score of 5-3.

With two outs and nobody on and the Mets down to their final out of their season, Gary Carter singled to left field off of Calvin Schiraldi. Then, Kevin Mitchell singled to center field off of Schiraldi. Then, Ray Knight singled to center field to plate Carter and put Mitchell at third as the tying run

Red Sox manager Bob McNamara replaced Schiraldi with Bob Stanley, who was tasked with getting Mookie Wilson out. He proceeded to throw a fastball to the backstop to plate Mitchell.

It was the greatest game I have ever seen. The stadium rocked. The fans cheered. The place was on fire and so were the Mets. I am so lucky to have experienced that by being at the stadium that day.
