Steven Matz to start Game 4, Jacob deGrom scheduled for Game 5 in NLDS
Terry Collins clarified the club’s rotation plans for the remainder of the National League Division Series on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field.
Matt Harvey remains on schedule to start on Friday, followed by Steven Matz in game four and, if necessary, Jacob deGrom in game five back in Los Angeles.
Originally, the Mets were toying with the idea of bringing deGrom back on short rest for game four, but after he took on a 121-pitch workload on Friday night, Collins all but ruled that out.
The decision was made easier thanks to Matz coming through fine from his simulated game at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie on Thursday afternoon.
Matz will start on regular rest, and deGrom will start with five days rest, if needed, on Thursday at Dodger Stadium.
