Steven Matz has successful bullpen session in New York on Tuesday
The Mets will soon know whether or not Steven Matz will pitch in game four of the Division Series next week at Citi Field, but he took a very positive first step on Tuesday at the team’s workout at Citi Field.
Matz threw a bullpen session and came through ok, and he will now head to Port St. Lucie and throw in the Instructional League as expected.
If all goes well in Florida, Matz should be on the Division Series roster and pitch in game four with no limitations.
If Matz is indeed active, the Mets will have to decide whether or not Jon Niese or Bartolo Colon will be in the bullpen in the Division Series.
On Sunday, Terry Collins hinted Colon could be a valuable member of the bullpen, although he has seemed less certain about Niese’s ability to adapt to a bullpen role in time for the playoffs.
