X-Rays negative on Yoenis Cespedes’ hand – diagnosed with a hand contusion
The Mets and their fans can now take a breath of fresh air.
Yoenis Cespedes was hit by a pitch on his left hand on a pitch from Justin De Fratus in the top of the third inning, and was immediately removed from the game.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis replaced Cespedes and ran for Cespedes.
This is a huge sigh of relief. Obviously, Cespedes will be shutdown for a day or two, but the Mets got a tremendous gift after what looked like a real bad situation in the third inning.
He is unquestionably a pivotal player for the Mets. There is no replacing Cespedes, who is the transformational player on the roster, and they cannot replace him.
They got lucky tonight in what was a very nervous few innings.
Cespedes will not play in the team’s series finale against Philliesnon Thursday.
