Steven Matz has stiffness in his side
Steven Matz is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the Phillies, but suddenly those plans are up in the air.
Matz is experiencing minor discomfort in his side, and could be scratched from his start on Wednesday.
Matz said the discomfort is on his right side, and not on the side he tore his lat muscle in late June.
“I slept on it wrong, or something,” Matz said.
Sandy Alderson is not concerned about Matz, and expects him to be pushed back by a day, at worst.
If that happens, Matz would likely pitch on Thursday, weather permitting.
Alderson said Matz will not undergo any tests, and he is expected to be on the playoff roster.
However, Matz’s role has not been determined, as the club is weighing several factors including his experience versus Bartolo Colon, plus both of their abilities to go to the bullpen.
