Player Q&A: Getting to know Michael Conforto
Michael Conforto has been extremely impressive in his time with the Mets this season, slowly becoming a household name.
The 22-year-old rookie phenom has been precisely as advertised, hitting for power with a good eye at the plate along with showing off his continually-improving defense in left field.
In 153 plate appearances, Conforto has hit .286/.366/.526 with seven home runs and 22 RBI over 45 games. He is second on the club with eight defensive runs saved (DRS), according to FanGraphs.
In this Q&A, I got a little more insight into who Conforto is off the field…
What’s your favorite music to get your pumped up before a game?
I’m a big hip hop guy. I like J Cole, The Weeknd. Lately, the new Weekend CD came out so I’m pumped up on that.
Favorite karaoke song?
What’d we do back in college? A lot of Backstreet Boys.
Favorite meal before a game?
I get a sandwich with turkey, chipotle mayo, avocado, bacon, got some really good cheese in there, that’s the pregame meal.
Angry Birds or Flappy Birds?
I got to go with Angry Birds.
And your favorite line from Old School?
I’ve got to think of something that’s PG. Anything Will Ferrell says. When he’s talking to Blue he says “You’re my boy blue.”
Favorite Little League moment of yours?
I went to the Little League World Series so that whole experience was incredible. Just meeting all the players from all over the world, different parts of the country was pretty cool.
Any pre-game superstitions at all?
I used to put a smiley face on my barrel of my bat. Something I look at before the game. Once I switched to wood, I kind of just imagined it there since it got kind of tedious putting a smiley face on my bat. That’s kind of a superstition.
If you had to be stuck on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?
I’d probably go with [David Wright] just because he such a competitor and he’ll do anything to survive so I think I’d go with David.
