Dario Alvarez leaves Tuesday’s game with a groin injury
The Mets once again appear to have more uncertainty on the left side of their bullpen.
After allowing three consecutive hits to left-handed hitters in the ninth inning on Tuesday – including a two-run home run from Dee Gordon – Dario Alvarez exited the game after balking while delivering a pitch.
Alvarez stumbled in his delivery and failed to throw his pitch to the plate, allowing Christian Yelich to go to second base. He was then remove from the game with a groin strain.
Terry Collins described the injury as, “severe,” and Alvarez will undergo x-rays.
Aside from the poor performance, this injury is impactful for the Mets plans in the bullpen. If Alvarez is going to miss significant time, the Mets are once again without any solution against left-handed hitting down the stretch of the season, and possibly in the playoffs as well.
