Mets set weekend rotation, plan to skip Matt Harvey again in September
Terry Collins has decided how he will align his starting rotation for the club’s three-game series against the Marlins on Miami.
Jacob deGrom will start as planned on Friday night, followed by Bartolo Colon and Steven Matz on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Collins said they decided to start Matz on Sunday to keep Colon on regular rest.
The Mets will be staying the course with their rotation during next week’s series against the Nationals, with Jon Niese starting on Monday, Matt Harvey on Tuesday, and deGrom on Wednesday.
Collins said the Mets are also planning to skip Harvey one more time this season, and his staff currently has two dates in mind for it.
Such a decision could depend on whether or not the Nationals gain any ground on the Mets, and at what point the Mets might be able to clinch the National League East if they continue on their current trend.
Collins said once again there is no doubt Harvey and the rest of the starting pitchers will pitch in the playoffs, should the Mets get there.
