What to look for: Mets vs. Phillies, 7:05 PM
The Mets will look for their 7th straight win and a series sweep against the Phillies tonight at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia at 7:05 PM.
Here is tonight’s starting lineup for New York:
Curtis Granderson – RF
Yoenis Cespedes – CF
Daniel Murphy – 1B
David Wright – 3B
Kelly Johnson – 2B
Travis d’Arnaud – C
Michael Conforto – LF
Ruben Tejada – SS
Jon Niese – LHP
Here is tonight’s pitching matchup:
Jon Niese (8-9, 3.90 ERA) will start for the Mets.
Aaron Harang (5-14, 4.67 ERA) will start for the Phillies.
Here’s what I am looking for from the Mets tonight:
The Mets have caught fire yet again as tonight they’re looking for their third separate seven-game winning streak this season. Not only could the Mets win their 7th straight with a victory tonight, but it would also mark their 12th consecutive victory against the Phillies.
There was a point when this Phillies squad owned the Mets, but times sure have changed as the Mets are 25-3 in their last 28 meetings with Philadelphia.
Johnny B. Goode?
After a rough month of May, Jon Niese’s season has completely turned around. In June, Niese posted an ERA of 3.00 and in July, he was even better as his ERA for the month was 2.87. Jon continued his streak of quality starts into August up until his last start, where Coors Field–which has claimed many victims–got him in trouble.
In his last start against the Rockies, Niese pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 11 hits, seven earned runs and a pair of walks in a winning effort. While he’s pitching in a bandbox once again tonight as the Mets look for the sweep at Citizens Bank Park, it’s still a good chance for Niese to get back on track and show that his start in Colorado was merely a blip on the radar, rather than a growing trend.
