Nationals alter rotation ahead of their showdown with the Mets
The Mets will face the Nationals beginning September 7 for a three-game series at Nationals Park.
The Nationals will attempt to put their best foot forward in what could be one of the last chances they’ll have to catch the Mets in the National League East in 2015.
Washington’s manager Matt Williams has reset the starting rotation to ensure the Mets will face Max Scherzer, Jordan Zimmermann, and Stephen Strasburg in that three-game series.
Assuming the Nationals don’t alter their rotation again after that, the Mets would then be scheduled to face Scherzer on the final game of the season on October 4 at Citi Field.
However, the Nationals have two off-days after their series with the Mets during Labor Day week, so Matt Williams can finagle their rotation again to possibly have at least one of his other big arms face the Mets again during that final weekend.
Presumably, the Mets will strategize themselves so they can have their better arms going in that series as well. Of course, it all depends on when they put Matt Harvey back into the rotation, when Steven Matz is activated and how they organize their six-man rotation.
But it would behoove the Mets to take care of business and have that final series of the season be irrelevant.
