On Thursday, Jon Santucci of TC Palm reported Michael Cuddyer would begin his rehab assignment with the GCL Mets, followed by an appearance with the St. Lucie Mets on Friday, after which he would be activated from the disabled list in time for Saturday’s game against the Rays.
But that schedule changed mid-day Thursday after Cuddyer did not appear in the game that day, and his return was pushed back to Monday against the Rockies at Citi Field.
On Saturday, Collins said Cuddyer fouled a ball off his foot taking batting practice earlier this week, and the club wanted to see how he felt after playing nine innings in right field on Friday night with St. Lucie.
Cuddyer apparently managed the game fine, Collins said, and the outfielder is back in Saturday’s lineup for St. Lucie and playing left field.
Cuddyer remains on course to rejoin the Mets on Monday against the Rockies.
He has been on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his knee since July 24. He’s hitting .250/.303/.380 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 82 games in 2015.
