On Tuesday, the Mets designated Alex Torres for assignment to make room for Eric O’Flaherty, who was acquired along with cash for a minor leaguer pitcher.
On Saturday, the club announced Torres had cleared waivers, and was outrighted off the 40-man roster and into Triple-A Las Vegas.
Torres had a rough year with the Mets, walking 26 batters in 34 1/3 innings pitched in 39 appearances in 2015. He only recorded one outing in which he did not allow a base runner since May 2. Left-handed hitters hit .268 against Torres this season.
