The result and the team’s play on Friday night’s game in Atlanta were bad enough, but now they have a problem with their closer and team MVP in the first half.

In the eighth inning of Friday night’s brutal 2-1 loss to the Braves, Jeurys Familia entered the game in the eighth inning and appeared to injure his left leg.

After the game, Terry Collins described Familia’s discomfort as a cramp in his left leg.

However, Familia indicated the discomfort was more significant than that, telling reporters he has left groin tightness, and could need a day or two to recover from the injury.

More will be known tomorrow, but an injury to Familia is probably one of the last things this team needs at the moment, especially in a  bullpen which is exhausted and broken.

The stink of it is, it’s not clear why Familia was in the game to begin with, considering it was the eighth inning and the team was down a run.

Then again, his presence in this game in that situation pretty much sums things up from the right side of the bullpen right now.
