Tuesday’s pitching matchup: Bartolo Colon vs. Bud Norris

Colon Norris

Rich MacLeodBartolo Colon (4-1, 3.31 ERA) will start for the Mets. Coming off of his first loss of the season, Colon and the Mets look to rebound against the Orioles on Tuesday night. While he was tabbed with the L, Colon still wasn’t terrible in his last start. Against Miami last week, Colon went 6.2 innings pitched, allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out a pair. Perhaps the biggest moment in his last start was in the 1st inning, when the Mets couldn’t turn a double play in front of Giancarlo Stanton, who subsequently hit a 2-run home run. If Colon goes at least five innings in tonight’s game, it will set the Mets franchise record for the most consecutive starts by a rotation with at least 5 innings pitched at 27. The previous record (26) was set last season.

Key matchups vs. Colon:

J.J. Hardy: 3-for-20, 2 RBI, 2 K
Adam Jones: 8-for-26, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 5 K
Chris Davis: 4-for-10, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 4 K

Bud Norris (1-2, 12.28 ERA) will start for the Orioles. Norris, who hasn’t pitched in nine days, has had a Jekyll & Hyde kind of season so far in 2015. In two starts Norris has been serviceable, going a combined 11.1 innings and allowing 6 earned runs. However it’s his other two starts that are really staggering, allowing 17 earned runs in a combined 5.1 innings. The Mets offense–which has been scuffling lately–has a shot tonight to put some runs on the board against a pitcher who’s really struggled this year. Norris has allowed a home run in each of his last three starts.

Key matchups vs. Norris:

Michael Cuddyer: 3-for-7, 2B, 2 RBI
Daniel Murphy: 2-for-9, HR, 2 RBI, 3 K
Kirk Nieuwenhuis: 2-for-4, 2 RBI
