The Mets have purchased the contract of C Johnny Monell from Triple-A Las Vegas, the team announced.

Monell was hitting .397/.455/.638 in 66 plate appearances with four home runs and 15 RBI in 17 games for Triple-A Las Vegas.

To make room on the active roster for Monell, the Mets optioned INF Eric Campbell to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Campbell was hitting .200/.323/.320 with a home run and five RBI in 16 games since being recalled on April 15. He had reached base just four times in his last 22 plate appearances.

Campbell had done a nice job filling in for Wright initially, but he really slumped lately and was relegated to the bench when they moved Daniel Murphy to third base. With Monell, the Mets add some pop to the left side of their bench, and it’s theoretically more balanced with the extra bat from the left side.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Monell, the Mets transferred OF Cesar Puello to the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to April 6.
