Noah Syndergaard dominant again for Las Vegas

Noah Syndergaard could be inching closer and closer to the big leagues.

Syndergaard turned in another stellar performance at Cashman Field in Las Vegas on Saturday night, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing only four hits and two walks with ten strikeouts.

Syndergaard earned his second win of the year – he has now thrown 14 1/3 consecutive shutout innings and lowered his ERA for the year to 1.66.

“He’s been great. He’s a hard worker, and his stuff is outstanding,” Mets director of minor league operations Ian Levin told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Saturday. “He’s moved quickly through the system. It’s his second year in Triple A, but he’s still so young for the (PCL) and his stuff is so advanced. He’s a special prospect, too.”

As well as Steven Matz has pitched in Las Vegas (it can easily be argued he has pushed ahead of Syndergaard development-wise), it always seemed Syndergaard would get the call when the Mets needed a sixth starter later this month. Matz is probably ready, but he also needs to accumulate some more innings before reaching the mile post the team typically feels comfortable with before promoting a player to the big leagues.

But with this latest run of success for Syndergaard, it looks like he might be finally putting all of the pieces together for a promotion to the big leagues.

It hasn’t been an easy road for Syndergaard. He’s had to adjust to a difficult league for pitchers with much stiffer competition than he’s ever faced. For the first time in his life, people actually hit him with regularity, and it seemed that was difficult for him to deal with and adjust to.

Perhaps though, his time has finally come.
