Mets add Josh Smoker to the 40-man roster
The Mets have added LHP Josh Smoker to the 40-man roster, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
Smoker, a hard throwing left-hander, pitched for Single-A Savannah of the South Atlantic League, Singke-A St. Lucie of the Florida State League and Double-A Binghamton of the Eastern. League in 2015. He was 3-0 with six saves and a 3.12 ERA in 41 games with 19 walks and 60 strikeouts..
He was the 31th overall pick by the Washington Nationals in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Calhoun High School.
Smoker is 18-20 with 21 saves and a 4.60 ERA (149 earned runs/291.2 innings) with 287 strikeouts over 146 minor league games.
He needed to be added to the 40-man roster ahead of Friday morning, at which point he could have become a minor league free agent.
The 40-man roster is once again full.
