In what is no surprise, the Mets have decided to extend their relationship with the man who guided the franchise to their first National League pennant in 15 years.

According to a report from Kristie Ackert of the Daily News, Terry Collins and the Mets have agreed on a two-year contract extension, which will be announced at Citi Field on Wednesday at 11 AM.

Collins’ two-year contract is worth a total of $3 million, according to Jon Heyman of CBS sports.

In five seasons with the Mets, Collins has a 394-416 record, but is 169-155 over the last two seasons and led this team to their first postseason berth in nine years.

For Collins, who is a frontrunner to win National League Manager of the Year this season, it’s been an up and down tenure with this team, as he was given a barren roster that was in the process of a full rebuild when he was initially hired.

After four down seasons, however, Collins kept this team together through the first four months of this season despite injuries to key players and a borderline minor league roster. Once the front office gave him the proper reinforcements and the team got healthy at the end of July, this team flourished and made their run through the postseason, all the way to the World Series.

This is well-deserved for a man who has spent his entire life in baseball, has suffered through some lean years, learned a lot of lessons, and worked very hard and remained very patient to get to this point. He has helped change the culture with the Mets, been able to keep his clubhouses together even in the most uncertain of times, and has shielded his club from so much negativity and scrutiny to keep them focused on their work.

He has truly become an excellent manager.

Collins, 66, has said he would like to manage for two more years, after which he has hinted he will retire.
