Dominic Smith has been named the Florida State League Player of the Year for 2015, the league announced on Thursday.
Smith, the club’s first selection in the 2013 first-year player draft, has had a tremendous season in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League in 2015, leading the league in both doubles and RBI while hitting .305/.354/.417 with 33 doubles, six home runs and 79 RBI in 118 games for Single-A St. Lucie in 2015.
His 33 doubles and 79 RBI currently lead the Florida State League.
“I learned a lot from last year,” Smith recently told JustMets. “Just by going through [those struggles], I ended up taking what I learned from last year and putting it in my game this year, and it’s paid off.”
Smith, 20, has set career-highs in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage in 2015.
