Daniel Murphy exited Wednesday’s game as a precaution in the top of the fourth inning with mild discomfort in his quad.

Murphy doubled in Curtis Granderson on a double in the bottom of the third, and later scored on a home run from Michael Conforto.

Murphy missed nearly a month with a strained left quad in June, and injured his hamstring late in Spring Training, and almost ended up on the disabled list to start the season.

If Murphy needs an extended absence, it’s unlikely the Mets will place Murphy on the disabled list with rosters having expanded to 40 players. But as was the case with the last quad injury, it can be expected Murphy will miss 3-4 weeks, which cuts his availability for the playoffs awful close, assuming that’s the case.

Perhaps the Mets will now call up Dilson Herrera for the time being to add some more infield depth to the roster. He’s been fantastic all year at Triple-A Las Vegas, but struggled in his various stints with the Mets during the season.
