Travis d’Arnaud recorded a solo home run in the second inning and a single to start a rally in the seventh inning during Monday’s 4-2 win over the Rockies.
He had made sporadic starts since being activated from the disabled list on July 31, playing in just six games during that span, as the original plan for d’Arnaud was to sit him once every three games so he could build his stamina.
He had gone 4-for-23 in six games since returning from the disabled list.
But Monday marked the first of three consecutive games d’Arnaud will play in, as Terry Collins intends to increase d’Arnaud’s playing time now that he his stamina has returned.
Collins is hopeful d’Arnaud’s production improves with the regular playing time.
“As we saw last year, when this guy starts hitting, he can be really dangerous,” Collins explained.
D’Arnaud has played in just 26 of the team’s first 112 games this season. The team is 17-9 when d’Arnaud starts.
