Steven Matz is making progress in his recovery from a torn lat muscle, as he began throwing at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie from 60 feet earlier this week.

On Friday in St. Petersburg, Terry Collins said Matz is now throwing at 120 feet, and to this point has not suffered any setbacks in his rehabilitation.

Barring such setbacks, Collins said Matz is expected to begin throwing off a mound sometime next week.

There is still no timetable for Matz to begin a rehab assignment, although Collins has said before Matz is not expected to return to the Mets before September. But when he does, the club will employ a six-man rotation.

Matz has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 10, retroactive to July 6.
