Michael Cuddyer began his rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Friday night in quiet fashion.

Cuddyer went 0-for-3 with a walk in the Mets 5-2 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads in 11 innings at Tradition Field.

Cuddyer played nine innings in right field, the first time he’s played right at any point in 2015.

It’s noteworthy because Cuddyer doesn’t necessarily have a full-time role when he’s activated from the disabled list, which is expected to come on Monday.

He’s best suited in a platoon, and it seems plausible to do it with Curtis Granderson or Michael Conforto when he returns. Granderson especially struggles against left-handed pitching, and this configuration would go a long way towards protecting that weakness for the rest of the season.
