Originally, Michael Cuddyer was hopeful he would rejoin the Mets on Friday night when the Mets take on the Rays in St. Petersburg.

But it appears he will have to wait to be reactivated.

Jon Santucci of TC Palm said on Thursday morning the tentative plan was for Cuddyer to serve as the designated hitter in game two of a doubleheader between the GCL Mets and GCL Cardinals and play with the St. Lucie Mets on Friday.

The expectation, according to Santucci, was for Cuddyer to rejoin the Mets on Saturday, although he did not ultimately appear in any Gulf Coast League games on Thursday.

But now, it appears the Mets will hold off on activating Cuddyer from the disabled list until Monday when the Mets return home to face the Rockies, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Cuddyer’s rehab assignment will start on Friday with Single-A St. Lucie, the club announced.

Terry Collins has not indicated what Cuddyer’s role will be when he returns, although it appears there is no guarantee for Cuddyer when he does get back.

“He will play when I think he should play,” Collins said on Wednesday. “We’ve got a DH in Tampa, where he might DH one game and I know we’ve got a ton of lefties coming up, so he will play in those games for sure, but I have nothing etched in stone.”

Cuddyer has been on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his knee since July 24.  He’s hitting .250/.303/.380 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 82 games in 2015.
