Gavin Cecchini has put together a breakout season with the B-Mets in 2015 hitting .312/.370/.442 with seven home runs and 49 RBI in 97 games for the Mets Double-A affiliate.
Cecchini was particularly impressive during July, posting a .387/.453/.532 line with six doubles, three triples, two home runs and 18 RBI in 29 games. He also had 11 multiple-hit games during July, and led the Eastern League with his 48 hits.
For his outstanding month, Cecchini has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for July.
Cecchini, 21, was the Mets first-round selection in the 2012 first-year player draft.
In four seasons in the Mets minor league system, Cecchini has hit .270/.336/.380 with 66 doubles, 11 triples, 16 home runs and 141 RBI in 332 games.
But it is this season where things have begun to come together for the promising shortstop prospect.
“Really just sticking with my approach regardless of the results,” Cecchini told JustMets.net earlier this season about his success. “Just keep shrinking the strike zone and really keying in on a pitch I want to hit and if I don’t get that pitch, if they’re nibbling, I just hand the torch off to the next guy.”
