Michael Cuddyer left the Mets to begin baseball activities at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie earlier this week.

But he hopes his stay in Port St. Lucie is brief.

Cuddyer told Jon Santucci of TC Palm at Tradition Field on Wednesday morning he hopes to play in one rehab game with the GCL Mets on Thursday, and if he gets through that game with no setbacks, he hopes to rejoin the Mets on Friday at Tropicana Field when the Mets open a three-game series against the Rays.

Cuddyer has been on the disabled list with a bone bruise in his knee since July 24. Terry Collins has not indicated what Cuddyer’s role will be when he returns. He’s hitting .250/.303/.380 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 82 games in 2015.
