Earlier this season, the Mets and Savannah Sand Gnats announced the affiliate would be moving to Columbia, South Carolina, and begin play there starting in 2016.
The new name of the team will be the Columbia Fireflies.
The Gnats will move to Spirit Communications Park, a stadium currently under construction but will open in time for the 2016 season. The club will play against rivals such as the Greenville Drive, Charleston River Dogs, Rome Braves, Augusta Greenjackets and Greensboro Grasshoppers in their new division.
