Steven Matz had been idle for the better part of four months as he allowed time for his torn left last muscle to heal.
But he was recently cleared to begin a throwing program, and did so at the team’s minor league complex in port St. Lucie on Monday, Terry Collins said in Miami.
Matz threw from 60 feet on flat ground on Monday.
On Sunday, Collins said Matz was expected to rejoin the Mets in early September, at which point the Mets would go back to a six-man rotation for the final weeks of the season.

All these kids are pacing near 200 innings before the postseason even begins. The matz injury helped them get there and sandy knows he can’t really pull them back as much as he’d like. Matz injury is probably the best thing that could happen, now we don’t have to worry about inning limits as much next year outside of maybe wheeler
