On Tuesday, Jenrry Mejia was suspended for 162 following a second PED violation, leaving the Mets scrambling once again to fill a void in their bullpen.
After the suspension was announced, Sandy Alderson said it was unlikely the club would pursue a replacement to Mejia in the bullpen.
But that thought process might have changed as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, and since Jeurys Familia has blown his third save since the All-Star break.
The Mets could be shopping for help in the bullpen, in addition to searching for an outfielder, reports Mike Puma of the New York Post.
The Mets could surely use some help on the left side of their bullpen down the stretch of the season, as left-handed hitters are hitting a combined .264 against both Sean Gilmartin and Alex Torres this season. With a timeline for Jerry Blevins to return still unclear, the Mets really have to consider him a non-factor until he becomes one again.
And, if the Mets find somebody and Blevins does return, they could have a very formidable recipe for late-game situations, especially now that Tyler Clippard is in the fold and Familia likely to straighten himself out in the short-term.
