Carlos Gomez traded to the Astros

Baron24 hours ago, the Mets had an agreement in place to acquire Carlos Gomez from the Brewers in exchange for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores.

A day later, with questions surrounding Gomez’s medical reports, the Astros found no issue with them, and acquired the center fielder and Mike Fiers from the Brewers in exchange for a package of prospects.

“It’s simple, our doctors thought the health risk was too great; Houston’s doctors apparently feel otherwise,” Mets GM Sandy Alderson told Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal.

This caps a very bizarre chain of events surround Gomez, the Mets and the Brewers. The Brewers have done a lot of talking about this situation in public, with the Mets saying next to nothing since the trade died last night outside of reports they were concerned about Gomez.

There were some very unfortunate events to transpire from this on the Mets side. The best way for the Mets and everyone else to move forward, in reality, is to press on and find the bat they’re looking for ahead of Friday’s trade deadline.
