The Mets received some more encouraging news on the injury front on Tuesday.
Steven Matz has been shutdown for nearly three weeks since the discovery or a torn lay muscle in his left side.
Matz visited with team doctors during Monday’s off-day, and Sandy Alderson said the tear has improved, although he will undergo another examination next week before determining the next step.
Matz will head to the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday to continue his rehab.
Matz has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 10, retroactive to July 6. There is still no timetable for Matz to begin a throwing program.
