Olney: Mets still looking for deals, but, ‘heavy lifting’ could be over

BaronWith the Mets having secured Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson and Tyler Clippard, the Mets were optimistic they could still add one more piece – presumably a bat – before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline on Friday at 4 PM, according to David Lennon of Newsday. And acquiring Clippard should not have an impact on their ability to add such a bat, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

The Mets still need to add a primary player to their offense, whether it’s in the outfield or infield. But it’s possible such a deal may never come to fruition, and the Mets may be done with the, “heavy lifting” in terms of making trades this summer, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.

The Mets have shown they’re willing to be bold and take some risks ahead of the trade deadline, and their moves suggest they’re serious about 2015. Having said that, they know they still need one more bat – it’s difficult to conclude they’re stopping here before they finish the job.

That’s not to say they will ultimately get the bat they need, or they should make a foolish move either. But it seems the Mets are intent on finding the right deal for the bat they need for this lineup even if they have to wait until the deadline to come on Friday afternoon, despite Olney’s report.

The Mets reportedly been connected to Gerardo Parra, Carlos Gomez, Jay Bruce, Justin Upton, Will Venable, and Troy Tulowitzki (before he was dealt to the Blue Jays), all of which would fill their need.

  1. Love to add Charlie Blackmon from Colorado to platoon with Lagares. Montero plus?
