

Jon Niese left the club after Friday’s game against the Dodgers to be with his wife as they welcomed their newborn son.
Niese was placed on the paternity list, which afforded him three days to be away from the club, In the interim, the Mets recalled RHP Logan Verrett from Triple-A Las Vegas.
On Tuesday, Niese was activated from the paternity list. To make room for Niese on the active roster, the Mets optioned Verrett back to Las Vegas.
In addition, the Mets officially added RHP Tyler Clippard to the active roster. To make room for Clippard, the Mets moved Jenrry Mejia to the restricted list.
Mejia has also been removed from the 40-man roster – he will miss the remainder of the season and be out until next August after failing a second drug test.

Mejia ought to start applying for McDonald’s positions soon. He had his chance and can now be fired without any conscience issues.
