Jenrry Mejia returned from an 80 game suspension resulting from a violation of the league’s joint drug agreement.
He has violated the agreement again, and has received a harsher penalty.
Mejia tested positive for positive again for Stanozolol and also Boldenone, performance-enhancing substances in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Agreement.
“We were extremely disappointed when informed of Jenrry’s second suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. We fully support MLB’s policy toward eliminating performance enhancing substances from the sport,” the Mets said in a statement.
“There’s a tremendous amount of disappointment, to some extent anger, to some extent amazement,” Sandy Alderson said at Citi Field on Tuesday evening.
There are no words to describe how disappointing all of this is. He’s been back 20 days from the first suspension. It’s not clear when this drug test was taken, but it’s terrible and indefensible.
He let his team down the first time back in April, forcing the Mets into a frenzy in what was already a fragmented and piece mealed bullpen. Now when the Mets were counting on him to be a big part of their late game formula, he does this again.
Many people – including David Wright and Sandy Alderson – were originally disappointed in Mejia’s selfishness the last time. I can’t imagine what people in that clubhouse are thinking this time.
Alderson said the deal for Tyler Clippard was already complete by the time they learned of the possibility Mejia might be suspended.
Mejia has received a 162 game suspension for a second violation. It’s a safe bet Mejia has thrown his last pitch as a Met, but Alderson would not say whether or not that would be the case.

No wonder they went & got Tyler Clippard. All makes sense now.

And no wonder it cost them Meisner. I don’t believe that SA didn’t know, and Billy Beane must have also known.
