The Mets need to fill their void at shortstop has been well documented over the years, as they’ve featured a revolving door of sub par players at the position for the last 3 1/2 seasons.
Sandy Alderson has said he is seeking to make, “big moves” ahead of Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline, and one of the players his front office recently inquired about was Braves SS Andrelton Simmons, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
But according to Olney, the conversation didn’t get anywhere once Atlanta gave the Mets an, “unreachable” price tag.
Still, it supports Alderson’s comments about wanting to make a big move, even if such a move may be unrealistic.
He’s a below average hitter, but the value he brings to any club would be in his defense which is far superior than most players at any position in the league.
Simmons is the premier defensive shortstop in the league. He is first among the league’s shortstops with 17 defensive runs saved second overall), and a 10.7 ultimate zone rating (third overall).
