A couple of injured Mets have begun the path towards returning at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie.

Matt Reynolds played five innings for the GCL Mets at Tradition Field Monday morning, going 1-for-2 with a run scored, playing five innings at shortstop and committing an error. He has been on the Las Vegas 51s disabled list with a minor elbow injury.

He said on Monday he is pain free, and the consensus was to shut him down for a couple of weeks to let the inflammation heal.

Also appearing for the GCL Mets was OF Cesar Puello, who is on the major league 60-day disabled list with a fractured bone in his back. He appeared in the fifth inning for the GCL Mets in right field and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

Puello is out of options. He was originally designated for assignment at the conclusion of spring training, but that was rescinded and he was put on the club’s disabled list to open the season.

If the Mets activate Puello, they have to either make room for him on the big league roster, or designate him for assignment again and hope he clears waivers.
