The Mets will be looking for a series split with the Dodgers this afternoon at 1:10 PM at Citi Field.
Here is today’s starting lineup for New York:
Curtis Granderson – RF
Ruben Tejada – SS
Daniel Murphy – 3B
Kelly Johnson – 2B
Lucas Duda – 1B
Michael Conforto – LF
Kirk Nieuwenhuis – CF
Kevin Plawecki – C
Jacob deGrom – RHP
Here is today’s pitching matchup:
Jacob deGrom (10-6, 2.18 ERA) will start for the Mets.
Zack Greinke (9-2, 1.30 ERA) will start for the Dodgers.
Here is what I’m looking for from the Mets on Sunday…
Find a way.
Greinke is amazing. He really is. He hasn’t given up a run in six weeks.
But all good things eventually come to an end, and the Mets need to find a way to scratch out a couple of runs against him and get into the meager Dodger bullpen on Sunday. That means when they do get baserunners, they have to get a little creative and stay mobile on the bases to try and squeak enough out to earn a split of this series and win the season series against Los Angeles in 2015.
A deGrominant performance.
The two pitchers with the best ERA’s are facing off in one game today, and its an opportunity for deGrom to put on yet another light show. He’s going to have to, because they can’t expect to score against Greinke today. He’s going to need to be on top of his game, and the Mets are going to need him to go deep into this contest and put up zero after zero.
Don’t let that renewed energy fade so quickly.
The Mets showed a lot of life on Saturday, not so much as it was indicated by the box score as much as they played with an extra hop to their step, a little faster and in a way to make things happen for them in a positive way. Perhaps it was the fire Terry Collins lit under them before the game, reminding them there are no guarantees on a daily basis. Maybe it was the injected of new talent. Maybe it was both.
