Travis d’Arnaud is inching closer to his much-needed return to the big leagues as he played in the second game of his rehab assignment this afternoon.
D’Arnaud, currently assigned to Double-A Binghamton, went 2-for-5 and scored a run as the B-Mets designated hitter in their 8-0 win over the Trenton Thunder in Trenton.
D’Arnaud is now 3-for-8 during his rehab assignment. Terry Collins has said d’Arnaud would need 20-25 at-bats before returning from the disabled list. That means he could be activated during next weekend’s series against the Nationals at Citi Field.
He has been on the disabled list since June 20 with a hyperextended left elbow.
