Sandy Alderson discussed the club’s position and thought process ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Here’s a summary of what he said:
- He would not view the trade deadline as a failure if the club did not make a move.
- The club isn’t just considering rentals – they would consider a piece that could help them in the longer-term.
- The club is willing and able to take on a significant contract this summer.
- The Mets will not consider trading a higher level prospect to gain salary relief on a bigger contract coming back to the club.
- The insurance money on David Wright’s contract while he’s been on the disabled list has no positive or negative impact on the club’s maneuverability at the trade deadline.
- The club is not close to making any deals as of Thursday.
- Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, and Jacob deGrom are off-limits in trade talks.

This means they will do nothing and hope we fans come out to citi to be disappointed again…this season like always can’t Wilpons have balls to come out and be honest we can’t afford to do anything. I’d as a fan feel better they do that then just lead us on like aways. I haven’t heard the Wilpons say anything this season.
