David Wright has begun baseball activities in Los Angeles

David Wright might have finally reached a significant milestone as he continues to recover from symtoms from spinal stenosis.

Sandy Alderson said Wright began light baseball activities in Los Angeles this week, and the injured third baseman is expected to return to New York next week to do additional work.

Alderson said the activities include light swinging and running, but wasn’t clear what the extent of those activities would be next week in New York.

There remains no timeline for Wright to return, and Alderson acknowledged there was a certain level of risk with Wright increasing his workload in his attempt to return.

Still, this is excellent news. The club will obviously take things very slow during this process, and he will presumably need the equivalent of a full Spring Training of activities and games – with no setbacks – before he can return.

It’s also not clear what Wright will be when and if he does get back, nor is it clear how much he can play. But the club needs his presence here and now, so I am sure everyone in the clubhouse is pleased with this news.

Wright has been on the disabled list since April 15. He has played in eight games this season.
