The Mets reportedly showed interest in acquiring retiring 3B Aramis Ramirez from the Brewers earlier this season, but he is now headed elsewhere.
The Pirates announced they’ve acquired Ramirez in exchange for minor league pitcher minor league righty Yhonathan Barrios and cash considerations.
The Mets were weighing the opportunity to acquire Ramirez in early June, reported Marc Carig of Newsday, although Adam Rubin of ESPN New York said at the time it was unlikely the Mets would acquire Ramirez due to his diminished skill set and the inability to move Ramirez should David Wright return this season.
In addition, after their series with the Brewers in Milwaukee in mid-June, team officials came away unimpressed with Ramirez, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, further reducing the chances the Mets make a formal bid to the Brewers.
Ramirez got off to a slow start in 2015 but has since picked it up, hitting .352/.422/.500 with two home runs and nine RBI in 16 games in July.
