Michael Cuddyer is taking anti-inflammatories for his knee

In what was described as a last ditch effort to avoid the disabled list, Michael Cuddyer said on Sunday in St. Louis they would try one more remedy to help alleviate the pain being cause by a bone bruise in his left knee.

On Monday, Cuddyer said he has begun a regimen of oral anti-inflammatory medication to help him manage the pain, remaining hopeful this course of action helps him not only get on the field, but be able to stay on the field and play in consecutive games.

It’s because of the bone bruise in his knee Cuddyer has been limited to just 30 plate appearances over nine games in the month of July, although he’s gone 9-for-29 with two home runs over that span.

If the anti-inflammatories do not help Cuddyer, he will more than likely be placed on the disabled list for an indefinite period of time to help the bruise heal. He has said this is not something which will require surgery, but has indicated this is an injury which will have to be managed throughout the remainder of the regular season.

If he does land on the disabled list, the options for an internal replacement are very limited. Darrell Ceciliani is on the disabled list in Las Vegas, and he’s the only alternative on the 40-man roster. They could conceivably promote Michael Conforto or Brandon Nimmo, but presumably the club would accelerate their movement to find a replacement on the trade market instead.

Terry Collins said Cuddyer will not start tonight, although he can pinch hit if needed.

  1. Can you just pull the trigger on the DL on Cuddyer already? Geez, what’s the problem⁉️ Does he get docked💸for less games sitting on the bench, not playing mind you, yet just not in the DL officially? He is hurting the team‼️MAN DOWN- AGAIN‼️ (These people are insane managers) and by that I mean they are inept.
