Travis d’Arnaud has begun baseball activities, still no timetable for return

Travis d’Arnaud has played in just 19 games in 2015 thanks to two very unfortunate injuries – a broken finger thanks to being hit by a pitch on April 19, and a vicious collision at home plate on June 20 which hyperextended his elbow.

He had been in an elbow brace almost 24 hours a day, but recently it had been removed and he resumed baseball activities at the team’s minor league complex in Port St. Lucie.

Manager Terry Collins said on Friday in St. Louis d’Arnaud has begun swinging a bat and catching in Florida, but has yet to begin a rehab assignment.

Collins could not offer a timetable for when that might happen.

Still, it would seem this is good news, considering where d’Arnaud was with this injury just about ten days ago. D’Arnaud, who is no stranger to the disabled list, has said the rehab process always takes longer for catchers because they have to re-strengthen their legs and core in preparation for daily catching duties, probably to a greater degree than that of the average position player.

With that said, he could still be up to a couple of weeks away, assuming there are no setbacks with his elbow.
