The Mets have added to their depth at a Triple-A while signing a familiar face in the process.
They’ve signed IF Zach Lutz to a minor league deal and assigned him to the Las Vegas 51s.
Lutz, 29, last appeared in the big leagues with the Mets in 2013 when he hit .300/.462/.400 in 15 games. He hit .291 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 59 games for Las Vegas in 2014.
He has appeared in eight games season with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Association where he went 3-for-27 with a home run.
To make room on the 51s roster, the Mets sold Alex Castellanos’ contract to a team in Japan, reports Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
