Buddy Carlyle has been on the disabled list since early May with what the club described as a strained back.
It looks like Carlyle will miss most, if not the rest of the season.
Carlyle underwent surgery this week to repair a torn labrum in his hip, reports Marc Carig of Newsday.
Carlyle was signed to a minor league contract this past winter and made the club out of camp when they decided to carry an extra reliever for Opening Day. He recorded the first save of his career on Opening Day in place of Jenrry Mejia, who at the time was unable to enter the game after straining his right elbow.
Carlyle appeared in 11 games for the Mets this season and allowed five runs in eight innings.
