The Mets will look for a series win against the Diamondbacks this afternoon at 4:10 PM at Citi Field.
Here is today’s starting lineup for New York:
Juan Lagares – CF
Ruben Tejada – SS
Michael Cuddyer – LF
Wilmer Flores – 2B
Lucas Duda – 1B
John Mayberry Jr. – RF
Kevin Plawecki – C
Eric Campbell – 3B
Matt Harvey – RHP
Here is today’s pitching matchup:
Matt Harvey (7-6, 3.11 ERA) will start for the Mets.
Patrick Corbin (1-0, 3.60 ERA) will start for the Diamondbacks.
Here’s what I’m looking for from the Mets today:
It’s #HarveyDay.
Last week wasn’t the best Harvey Day to go down for the Mets. He wasn’t sharp against the Dodgers – he walked five batters and got beat up pretty good as he lacked overall command of his fastball in the outing.
Harvey attributed some of his struggles to the extra day off in between starts – it had been seven days since his last outing which came against the Reds at Citi Field.
He’s going to be tasked with overcoming the same challenge again today, since he last pitched on July 4. Did he alter his routine? Is he less rusty? It’s a big #HarveyDay for him and the Mets, as they need to secure this win and go into the All-Star break on a winning note.
More big hits.
The Mets have gotten some clutch hitting for a change as of late, which has helped secure five wins in their last seven contests. For good teams, it’s gotta happen, whether its a single to plate the tying run, a go-ahead home run, or a contribution to setting up a run. It sure beats the weak contact the Mets had been featuring leading up to the holiday weekend last weekend, but it needs to continue if they stand a chance this summer.
A season series win.
They can’t win them all, but today marks an important game for the Mets, as they need to keep the Diamondbacks down, win this series in Flushing, but perhaps most importantly, win the season series against Arizona. A fourth win against them today would ensure the Mets do so, which give them home field advantage to play for the second wild card if they finished tied in that scenario.
