Despite losing Steven Matz for the forseeable future, the Mets are not considering punting the remainder of the 2015 season, Sandy Alderson said on Friday.
In fact, Alderson said he and the rest of the front office will remain aggressive in their attempt to bolster their sagging offense ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
Alderson also said the injury to Matz has nothing to do with their willingness to deal from their starting pitching depth this summer, and the club was not particularly willing to deal anyone to begin with.
“There’s been speculation that we were looking to trade pitching and therefore this loss makes that less likely, but I don’t think it was ever likely we were going to trade out of the six-man group,” Alderson explained.
That could be a play by Alderson to try and build a market for one of his pitchers, but with Matz on the shelf, it’s difficult for him to do that anyway, regardless of what he says the thinking was before the injury.

This is a “perceived crisis”, ( threatening the way the fan base spends MONEY & therefore, it IS a crisis.)
