Mets will likely use a five-man rotation immediately following the All-Star break

BaronOn Friday afternoon, Sandy Alderson said the team would wait to determine whether they’ll be using a five- or a six-man rotation when the season resumes after the All-Star break.

But after Alderson spoke, Terry Collins told WOR’s Wayne Randazzo the Mets are likely to employ a five-man rotation initially.

It may not be the worst thing in the world to go with their five best arms out of the gate, especially since they’ll be facing St. Louis and Washington in those first six games.

The Mets will then play four games against the Dodgers starting July 23, followed by an off-day on the 27th. So the Mets could conceivably wait to use a six-man rotation until after that off-day. They should also have some clarity on Steven Matz by then as well, which will help them map out their rotation into August one way or another.
